Will
my Host provide Wi-Fi ?
Most families provide free Wi-Fi in the homstay.- provided
it is used sensibly and not for downloading music or videos.
Do not spend too much time on the computer.
Using the computer for more than two hours per day can affect your
study and the host family will become concerned if you spend all your
time in your room on the internet.
Do
homestays include meals?
Yes - this
will depend on the plan you have selected. There are 3 plans - Full
board which is three meals per day or the Half Board option will the
hosts will provide Breakfast and Dinner each day and Breakfast, Lunch
and Dinner on the weekends and Public holidays. The other option which
is not available to students under the age of 18 is no meals provided
and students provide their own meals.
Is
it necessary to be home for meals?
Hosts
do not usually mind their students missing meals, if they are informed
in advance. If you are not going to be home in time for a meal,
you should tell your homestay family. Hosts may get upset if
a meal has been prepared for you and you have not informed the host
you will not be home. Never skip a meal without informing your hosts!
Will
my hosts clean my room and wash my clothes?
Although some hosts do, they are not expected
to clean for their students. In New Zealand, most adult sons
and daughters clean their own rooms. Students in homestays are
also expected to keep their personal space tidy. Some hosts will do
your laundry. If you prefer to do your own laundry, talk to your host
first.
Can
I walk to school from my homestay?
Most Auckland homestays are in quiet,
family-oriented neighbourhoods in the suburbs. Students usually take
public transport to school from their homestays. Travelling
time can vary from 15 to 45 minutes.
Should
I go to my bedroom after supper?
  No
- definitely not! One advantage of homestay accommodation
is that you have a chance to practice your English and make new friends.
Try to get involved in whatever your host family is doing, whether
they are playing cards, shopping, or washing the dishes. You
are here for an immersion experience, so jump in and have fun!
How
much notice am I required to give before moving out ?
You will need to give your host at least 7 days
notice if you intend to move out of Homestay. You can of course move
out before the 7-day period is up, but you will forfeit that weeks
accommodation fees
